Introduction
Store-bought almond milk might be convenient, but making it at home is a game-changer. It’s creamier, purer, and completely customizable — without added sugars, preservatives, or mystery ingredients. Whether you're dairy-free, vegan, or just curious, homemade almond milk is a nutritious, eco-friendly alternative that’s surprisingly easy to whip up with just a few simple tools.
Ingredients:
1 cup raw almonds (preferably organic)
4 cups filtered water (plus more for soaking)
Optional sweeteners/flavors:
1–2 dates (for sweetness)
½ tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of sea salt
Dash of cinnamon or nutmeg
Instructions:
Soak the Almonds
Place the almonds in a bowl and cover with water. Let them soak overnight or for at least 8–12 hours. This softens them and makes the milk creamier.
Drain and Rinse
After soaking, drain the almonds and rinse thoroughly under cool water.
Blend
Add the soaked almonds and 4 cups of fresh filtered water to a high-speed blender. Blend on high for about 60–90 seconds until the mixture looks milky and frothy.
Strain
Pour the blended mixture through a nut milk bag, fine mesh strainer, or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher. Squeeze out all the liquid — don’t waste a drop!
Flavor (Optional)
Pour the strained milk back into the blender and add any sweeteners or flavorings you like. Blend briefly to combine.
Bottle and Chill
Transfer the almond milk to a clean glass bottle or jar. Store in the fridge for up to 4–5 days. Shake well before each use, as natural separation will occur.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Shake Before Use: Homemade almond milk naturally separates; give it a good shake before pouring.
Shelf Life: It lasts 4–5 days in the fridge. Always smell and taste before use.
Use It Up: Great in smoothies, coffee, oatmeal, baking, or just by the glass.
Freeze for Later: Pour into ice cube trays for smoothie cubes or freeze in portions for later use.
Variations:
Chocolate Almond Milk: Add 1 tbsp cocoa powder and 1–2 dates during blending.
Vanilla Spice: Blend with vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a touch of maple syrup.
Strawberry Almond Milk: Add a handful of fresh strawberries for a fruity twist.
Creamier Version: Use less water (3 cups) for a thicker, cream-like consistency.
